In connection with the series of reports on CBD products that accompanied the resignation of a listed company chairman reported on September 2, 2025, we have observed coverage that gives the impression that CBD is involved, or even that CBD is synonymous with THC.
The Japan Medical & Industrial Cannabis Association (MAJIC) would like to emphasize, in light of recent reports—including alleged violations concerning products containing THC reported on September 2, 2025—our unwavering commitment to consumer safety and strict compliance with Japan’s Cannabis Control Act.
Our top priority is ensuring consumer safety and peace of mind. When using CBD products, we ask that consumers keep the following in mind:
CBD is a legal ingredient in Japan.
Please request the Certificate of Analysis (COA) of CBD products from the manufacturer or seller.
CBD products that have passed strict standards, including confirmation that no THC is contained, bear the “MAJIC Mark.” Please use this as a point of reference for safety and reliability.
MAJIC hereby makes clear that all products provided by member companies are thoroughly tested to meet Japan’s strict legal standards and are accompanied by Certificates of Analysis (COA) issued by accredited testing institutions. We also confirm that the trace amounts of THC permitted in CBD and industrial hemp products are strictly adhered to.
It should be noted that the current series of reports relates to the case of a specific company and does not represent the CBD industry as a whole. CBD and THC are clearly distinct compounds, and we are concerned that reporting which conflates the two may cause consumers undue anxiety and harm.
We also recognize that discrepancies in THC values may arise depending on the testing institutions and methods used. MAJIC is actively cooperating with government agencies and related organizations to improve transparency in testing systems and to work toward the standardization of testing criteria.
We strongly recommend that consumers purchase products only from trusted suppliers, such as MAJIC member companies, and always confirm the existence of a COA.
Through robust quality control, advanced testing systems, and transparency, MAJIC will continue to protect an environment in which consumers can use CBD with confidence and will remain dedicated to fostering a responsible and ethical industrial hemp industry in Japan.
